Murphy Closing In On Johnson In Latest Poll

A new poll of the fifth district has been released by Democracy Corps. The numbers look good for Chris Murphy. Johnson only leads by a mere five points (49-44). As a 24 year incumbent with a $4 million warchest, these numbers are pitiful for Nancy Johnson. Her message is clearly not resonating with Connecticut voters, despite the fact that she has been bombarding the district with TV ads every day and night. In fact, the poll indicates that her commercials may actually be having a negative effect. This race is extremely winnable! Let's do whatever we can to make sure Chris Murphy keeps the momentum and sends Nancy packing in November. Go to his website and volunteer or contribute to his campaign via ActBlue. WFP poll for Murphy had Murphy up 3 points -- within the margin of error. No poll to date has shown anything other than a close race, and the WFP could be the margin of victory.

The WFP recently joined with police and firefighters and their union leadership in denouncing a new Johnson ad that cynically exploits the tragedy of September 11th -- while hiding her record of voting to cut funding for emergency responders for the past three years. You can read more about this -- including the fact sheet about Johnson's record -- at www.ct-workingfamilies.org

Keep in mind that when Simmons beat Gjedenson in 2000, Gjedenson received more votes on the Democratic line than Simmons received on the Republican line. It was Simmons's cross-endorsement from something called the Independence Party that provided the margin of victory. Look it up!
